Kylian Mbappe was born in Paris on 20 December 1998 and developed as a footballer in Bondy, in the north-eastern suburbs of the French capital. He played for AS Bondy before entering the academy system at AS Monaco. His progress there was unusually rapid. On 2 December 2015, aged 16, Mbappe made his professional debut against Caen in Ligue 1, becoming Monaco’s youngest first-team player at the time. His first senior league goal followed against Troyes in February 2016.

The 2016/17 season established Mbappe at the highest level. Still only 18, he scored 15 Ligue 1 goals as Monaco won the French championship and ended Paris Saint-Germain’s four-year run as champions. He also made an impact in the UEFA Champions League, scoring against Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund during Monaco’s run to the semi-finals. His acceleration, direct running and finishing quickly made him one of Europe’s most prominent young forwards.

Kylian Mbappe moved to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, initially on loan before completing a permanent transfer. His first campaign in Paris produced a domestic treble of Ligue 1, Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue. Over seven seasons with PSG, he became the club’s record goalscorer, finishing his spell with 256 goals in all competitions. He won six Ligue 1 titles with PSG, in addition to four Coupes de France and two Coupes de la Ligue. Combined with the championship he had won at Monaco, he left French football with seven Ligue 1 titles.

His international career developed almost as quickly. Kylian Mbappe made his senior France debut against Luxembourg in March 2017. At the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, he became a central part of Didier Deschamps’ side. He scored four goals during the tournament, including one in France’s 4–2 victory over Croatia in the final, as Les Bleus became world champions for the second time.

France added the UEFA Nations League title in 2021. Mbappe played a decisive role in the final against Spain in Milan, scoring the winning goal in a 2–1 victory. At the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, he scored eight goals and collected the Golden Boot. Three of those goals came in the final against Argentina, which finished 3–3 before France lost the penalty shoot-out. He subsequently became captain of the French senior team.

After completing the 2023/24 season with PSG, Kylian Mbappe joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2024. His competitive debut came in the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta on 14 August. He scored in a 2–0 victory and collected his first trophy with the Spanish club. Real Madrid also won the FIFA Intercontinental Cup later that year, with Mbappé scoring in the final against Pachuca.

His first campaign in Spanish league football produced 31 La Liga goals and the Pichichi Trophy as the competition’s leading scorer. He followed that with another Pichichi in 2025/26, scoring 25 league goals. During the same season he finished as the UEFA Champions League’s leading scorer with 15 goals. By April 2026, he had reached 100 competitive appearances for Real Madrid and had scored 85 goals across those matches.

Kylian Mbappe’s international milestones continued in 2026. He became France’s all-time leading goalscorer during the FIFA World Cup and reached 100 senior international appearances in the following match against Iraq. The French Football Federation subsequently listed him with 103 senior caps, while continuing to identify him as a Real Madrid forward and France international. By the beginning of the 2026/27 season, he was wearing number 10 for Real Madrid, with UEFA listing him as a forward in the club’s Champions League squad.
